The School of Ballet takes great pride in offering this ancient Art of Health and Healing! Yoga is available for the entire family and our classes provide an introduction to a variety of yoga poses individually tailored toward students of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels. Our teachers provide in-depth instruction on basic poses and sequences, as well as an introduction to breath work and relaxation. Proper modifications are provided to help you safely enjoy yoga and reap the benefits of regular yoga practice, which include stress reduction, flexibility, strength, and an overall feeling of well-being.
7:00 – 8:00pm Gentle Yoga
This gentle class is therapeutic and soothing to the soul. Practiced I a chair or on the floor, poses are deliberate and unhurried, finding true balance in this moving meditation. Especially supportive of students who are dealing with stress or injuries, this class is appropriate for students of all levels, including those new to yoga.
7:30 – 8:30pm Yin Yoga
Yin/Restorative Yoga is a more relaxed practice that targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. It also includes supported postures by using bolsters/pillows, blankets and blocks that promote deep relaxation, and rejuvenate the nervous system. Postures are held for 3 to 5 min at a time. This type of meditative practice complements the more strenuous styles of yoga and is open to students of all levels.
7:45 – 8:45am Vinyasa Yoga
This dynamic Vinyasa practice is always evolving. Expect a creative sequence in which your instructor unpacks complex poses by building on the foundations of flow. This class may include arm balances and inversions but will always conclude with a full savasana/meditation.
Laura Taphorn Laura is known for her passionate and inspirational style of teaching; she blends the invigorating Vinyasa flow with concise alignment and provides individualized attention with specific exercise modifications. Integrating her love of the outdoors with teaching yoga classes, she leads Hike/Yoga classes at local parks. She teaches with love, laughter and acceptance, emphasizing breath, alignment and body awareness. Laura’s teaching style is fun, laid-back and challenging, yet accessible to all.
